Sacrament of Baptism
Through the Sacrament of Baptism, Jesus Christ washes away both original and actual sin through the merits of His life, death and resurrection. He pours forth the gift of the Holy Spirit upon us and incorporates us into the Holy Catholic Church that He founded which makes us God’s adopted sons and daughters.
Parents assume the responsibility of rearing their child(ren) in the ways of the Catholic faith. We ask parents to attend a pre-baptismal class for their child and to consult the priest or deacon who will be baptizing their child. Normally, two godparents are chosen, one of whom must be a believing and practicing Catholic who is confirmed. If the Catholic godparent is not a member of Our Divine Saviour Church, he/she must provide a letter of permission from his or her local pastor to be the godparent here.
An adult who desires membership in the Catholic Church is received into the Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Baptism classes are given by appointment only by the pastor.
Baptisms are normally celebrated on Saturday. Requests for baptism at the Saturday Vigil or Sunday Mass will be considered as well.
